Installation Guide
Note: Installation requires basic sewing skills and adhesive glue. If you're not comfortable with hand-sewing or machine-sewing, we recommend having a professional tack repair shop or saddler install these sleeves.
Gather Materials & Prepare
You'll need: rubber grip sleeves, heavy-duty thread, sewing needle or machine, contact/leather adhesive glue, scissors, and measuring tape. Clean and dry your reins thoroughly before starting.
Position the Sleeve
Determine optimal placement on your reins — typically where your hands naturally rest during riding. Mark the position with chalk or tape. Ensure placement will be symmetrical on both reins (for 18" pairs).
Slide Sleeve Over the Nylon Webbing
Gently stretch the rubber sleeve and slide it over the nylon webbing of the rein. Work it into the marked position. The rubber will conform to the rein shape. Ensure it's centered and positioned correctly before proceeding.
Glue Both Ends
Apply contact adhesive or leather glue to the inside of both ends of the rubber sleeve where it meets the rein webbing. Press firmly and allow to bond per the glue manufacturer's instructions before proceeding to stitching.
Sew Both Ends
Using heavy-duty thread and a saddle stitch or machine stitch, sew through both ends of the rubber sleeve to secure them firmly to the rein. Make multiple passes for strength. Ensure stitches go through all layers for maximum security.
